Sirman on the Mount

Quote of the Week --
"Human Dignity is like God, or the perfect blowjob -- it's always some guy talking about how it happened to a friend of his; it never actually happens to you."

Shea waxes Smug with a personalized Anthem from Queen, no less.
Honestly, it's just glistening with comic irony.

ABSO-FREAKIN'-LUTELY PRICELESS!
Hear Me, Graduates! - Dave Shiflett
O, how I wish he had spoken at my graduation from IU. As it is, I didn't go.

Fairly old column by Joel Miller on "The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life"
For those evangelicals who have a sense of humor, I recommend "The Mantra of Jabez: Break On Through, To The Other Side" from Canon Press. They also have a delightfully whimsical take on that big, steaming pile "Left Behind" by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Their version is called "Right Behind - A Christian Parody of Last Days Goofiness".

Nat Hentoff's final comment in this column:
"To George W. Bush: there will be no durable peace, so long as Arafat is in power."
Thanks Nat, but I'd take it one step further and say, "...so long as Arafat is still alive."

Former Leader of the Free World and exceptional dumbass, Jimmy Carter met with dissidents in Cuba yesterday.
What? He visited a bunch of unmarked graves?

This (year's, quarter's, month's) copy of Credenda/Agenda has a pic of John Lennon & Karl Marx on the cover.
For what it's worth, and it should be a lot, The Beatles are the most grossly overrated, overpraised and under-criticized pop group ever. Then again, that would make them the very Icon of the baby-boomer generation.

Mark Shea loves the word "odious"...Here's why:
Omaha Archbishop could be charged with witness tampering

I'd post a link here about how Randy Andy Sullivan is addressing revelations that his fave-rave, Dutch politico, Pim Fortuyn may have been a fan of way underage tail...but nothing do I find. "Curiouser and curiouser."

Welcome to Sirman on the Mount. Things needing to be known...or at least said very loudly:
1. "Scrubs" is way funnier than "M*A*S*H" ever thought about being...and it lacks the irritating Alan Alda factor
2. "Left Behind" and its sequals prove that literacy can be overrated
3. Whining is always unattractive
4. My God can beat up your god.
5. Feminists rarely have successful stand-up comedy careers
6. ...same goes for New York Times columnists
7. Jeanne Kirkpatrick is the toughest man alive
8. Camille Paglia comes in a close second
9. William Manchester's "The Glory and the Dream", "Goodbye, Darkness", and "A World Lit Only By Fire" should be required reading
10. Reading newspapers kills brain cells...don't believe the hype!
